A boy and naivety

First off, this is a crying movie. This is a movie that will absolutely break your heart. Seeing this movie touched me in a profound way. I absolutely loved and hated this movie. It stays true to the mood of the book.

This movie starts with a boy and his family. It then turns to two story lines. Story line one: the interaction between the mother and father. He is a colonel in the Nazi army. His wife slowly discovers what he truly is. He is an antisemitic monster. Her hate for him slowly grows. She disapproves of everything he later does. She wants to move at the end.
Story line two: the boy and his friend. His newly found friend. His friend is a Jewish boy in a Nazi concentration camp. He finds a lasting friendship with the strange boy. Not understanding everything. Smelling weird smells. (the smells are later explained as human flesh). Their friendship leads to the German boy’s death.

This movie is amazing. I loved the cinematography and feeling of realism. It is a very realistic film. It shows a concentration camp from the eyes of an 8-year-old. Fantastic acting (especially from the children) and amazing screen play make for a fantastic movie. This movie is a tear jerker, BEWARE. Bring tissues. The death of the boys is the culmination of many horrid events.

absolutely flawless. amazing. fantastic. realistic. 5 out of 5
